Andrew Wiggins delayed girlfriend's labor for regular season game

This is some hardcore dedication.

In early April, Warriors star Andrew Wiggins was preparing for a regular season game when his girlfriend, Mychal M. Johnson, went into labor with their second child — a baby girl named Alayah Milan. Wiggins ended up delaying Johnson from being induced so he could suit up for a Warriors matchup, believed to be against the Wizards on April 9.

Golden State lost that game 110-107, and Wiggins had 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

“I am so tired of hearing from Warriors fans and other people out there that [Wiggins] doesn’t care, that he’s apathetic, that he’s lazy,” Connor Letourneau, Warriors reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, said on his “Warriors Off Court” podcast.

“This is a guy who, a couple weeks ago, his girlfriend was going into labor. He had her delay inducing labor so that he can play a regular-season NBA game for the Warriors. Immediately after the game was over, he was like, ‘Yep, time to induce labor. I’ll be there.”

Stephen A. Smith has been one of the harsher critics of Wiggins, recently saying he would give him away for “a box of cookies.”

While the reporter didn’t divulge which game Wiggins played in while his girlfriend was in labor, his teammate unintentionally provided a mild timeline.

In a press conference from April 10, Warriors shooting guard Kent Bazemore stated, “Wigs playing with a heavy heart and heavy mind with the birth of his daughter last night.”

Wiggins and Johnson are also parents to daughter Amyah, born on October 11, 2018.
