American actor Dennis William Quaid was born on 9th April 1954, in Houston, Texas, of Cajun, Irish and English descent. He has appeared in numerous films – mostly dramas and comedies, being active in the entertainment industry since 1975. He won a New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Far from Heaven” in 2002, among other accolades.

Dennis Quaid Net Worth $45 Million

William Rudy Quaid and Juanita Bonniedale raised two sons, both of whom have become impressive actors. Their eldest son, Randy Quaid, is an outstanding actor, a nominee for Academy, BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards. The younger son, Dennis Quaid, followed the footsteps of his brother.

Dennis wanted to become an actor from his early childhood; he had a passion for dancing even as he studied at Bellaire High School, and was also taught drama by coach Cecelia Pickett. Quaid even enrolled into the University of Houston, but dropped out before graduation, as he decided not to waste time as he wanted to pursue the career of an actor as soon as possible. The start of his career wasn’t easy though; he didn’t get the roles he wanted, so it was difficult to prove himself, actually debuting with an uncredited role in the feature film “Crazy Mama” in 1975. Afterwards, he appeared in films playing small roles until his breakthrough in the film “Breaking Away” in 1979, directed by Peter Yates, which was praised by critics as well as succeeding commercially. Dennis attracted the attention of filmmakers, consequently landing leading roles in films including “The Right Stuff” in 1983, “Innerspace” in 1987, and “The Big Easy” in 1987 and “Great Balls of Fire!” in 1989, both directed by Jim McBride.

In spite of the fact that he experienced problems related to cocaine and alcohol use, his career was going up. Quaid increased his net worth as well as receiving positive reviews for his roles in the 1990s films “Postcards from the Edge”, “Wilder Napalm” , “Wyatt Earp”, “Dragonheart” and “The Parent Trap” (1998) among others.

Furthermore, another upswing of Quaid’s career came in the new millennium, when he was nominated for Saturn and Blockbuster Entertainment Awards for the role of Frank Sullivan in the film “Frequency”, and then won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his role in “Traffic”, both in 2000, but for “Far from Heaven” in 2002, Dennis won four prestigious awards for the role of Frank Whitaker. In addition, over the next several years he created noted characters in the films “The Day After Tomorrow”, “The Express”, “Pandorum”, “The Special Relationship” and “Beneath the Darkness” in 2012.

More recently he starred in the CBS TV series “Vegas” in 2012 and ’13, and the film “Truth” in 2015.

In his personal life, Dennis Quaid has been married three times, firstly to actress P. J. Soles from 1978 to ‘83, then to actress Meg Ryan – the mother of his first son – from 1991 to 2001. In 2004, Dennis married real estate agent Kimberly Buffington who is the mother of their twins, but they finally divorced in 2016 after a very off-on marriage involving several divorce threats by both. Quaid is now rumoured to be dating Santa Auzina, 32 years his junior.

#Quote
1[2008 interview] I have no regrets. There's only one real regret that I have, and that's that David Lean, who is my favorite director of all time, gave me the role of Nostromo in "Nostromo". And I went over there to Nice and met with him and got to ask him every question there was, spent an afternoon with him. Unfortunately, he wound up dying of cancer before we could shoot the film. That's my only regret.
2[observation, 2013] What's going on in television reminds me of what was going on in movies in the '70s, where the inmates had kind of taken over the asylum. And they're doing a lot of interesting things that I myself want to watch. The studios are just giving more of their tent-pole remakes of, you know, what's been successful before. I really don't find it all that interesting.
3I love being a dad. Basically it's the most gratifying, rewarding relationship in life. But at the same time, it certainly is the most challenging.
4[on The Express (2008)] At its core, it's about living your life with grace. If God bestows grace upon you, that you should live your life to its full effect. You know, Ernie Davis embodied that in his short life. He touched everybody around him.
5Movies seem to be happening to me rather than me going out there and saying, "Well, I'm going to play this.".
6I was a guy back in the '80s who was one movie away from a huge career, which at that time didn't happen. In the '90s, I worked a lot, but it was kind of, "get out there and dig and find things". Then I guess The Rookie (2002) and Far from Heaven (2002) were referred to as my comeback. I look around and a lot of the people I started in the business with, I have no clue where they are right now. So much of it has to do with luck and I have been extremely lucky, but a large part of it is also just hanging in there.
7There are three things being a celebrity is good for: raising money for charity, dinner reservations and tee times.
8[on his recovery from cocaine addiction] Well, a couple of times I had people come have a talk with me, but I was operating, for the most part, on two hours of sleep a night, and I realized, "I can't do this and last very long." So I cleaned up (in the early '90s) and then the jobs stopped coming. You clean up your life and think you're supposed to be rewarded for it, but things actually got worse. On the other hand, if I hadn't sobered up, I probably wouldn't be alive today.
9[2004] Being a celebrity couple is not so easy - it's double the publicity, and it's hard to have a private life...I have to tell you that I am happier with my life now then ever: I have a great son and a great career. I'm not only here, but here stronger than I've ever been - I have absolutely no regrets about the ups and downs of my career.
10I could never hold a job for more than three months, which works out well because that's how long a movie shoots.
11What, like I want to look like Dick Clark? No. I think I'll look great with liver spots.
