Juror questionnaires being mailed to Loudoun residents

Questionnaires are being mailed to Loudoun County residents through the end of the month, as the Circuit Court prepares for trials requiring juries.

Gary M. Clemens, clerk of the Circuit Court, expects about 40,000 juror questionnaires to be mailed, a county news release said.

“We are experiencing significant increases in the number of jury trials and, as a result, we will need more jurors to be available,” Clemens said in the statement.

Residents who receive questionnaires can mail back the completed forms or submit them online at www.loudoun.gov/jury.

A list of prospective jurors will be created based on the responses to the questionnaires.

Registration is open for 31st Citizens’ Police Academy

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for the 31st Citizens’ Police Academy, which starts Sept. 12.

The free sessions, which provide an overview of the law enforcement agency, will be Wednesday evenings through Nov. 28. The sessions begin at 7 p.m. and last 21 / 2 hours.

The academy is open to Loudoun residents 18 and older. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, and enrollment is limited to 30.

To register, call Becky Roll at the sheriff’s office at 703-737-8520 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The locations of the sessions will be announced.

Recycling bins availablefor community events

Whether for parties, sporting events or community festivals, the Loudoun County Department of Construction and Waste Management is offering portable indoor and outdoor recycling bins for residents to borrow.

To reserve the bins, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis, call 703-777-0187.
